Abeltje Hoogenkamp is the initiator of the successful project The Layman’s Sermon in which controversial Dutch celebrities — religious or not — for once climb the pulpit. Abeltje Hoogenkamp selected a hundred of the most beautiful poems about faith and inspiration for her book Symbols become cymbals.
Together with leading artists she invents innovative projects at the intersection of church and culture. Through newspapers, radio and television she links biblical stories with current events in a clear and provocative way.
Abeltje Hoogenkamp is a minister of the Protestant Church Amsterdam. She works as a chaplain at St. Lucas Andreas Hospital. In 2006 she won the audience award of the Sermon of the Year, a national preaching competition organized by Trouw and NCRV.
